Her activities and outspoken year of service earned her the Woman of Achievement Award for the year 2000(left). Heather was the only Miss America to be so honored at the end of her year of service.

Angela Perez Baraquio is the first Asian American and the first teacher to become Miss America. Angela took her "classroom" across the country, educating the nation about the need for building character in our schools and in our homes. She traveled approximately 20,000 miles a month on her national speaking tour entitled, "Character in the Classroom: Teaching Values, Valuing Teachers," challenging educators, parents and students to make character education an integral part of their school's every day culture and curriculum.

Erika Harold spent her year as Miss America 2003 promoting her platform “Preventing Youth Violence and Bullying: ‘Respect Yourself, Protect Yourself.’” Using her experiences as a victim of harassment during the ninth grade as a catalyst, Harold issued a national call to action, urging every segment of society to take a proactive approach in the eradication of these detrimental behaviors. In addition, Harold won acclaim by courageously encouraging young people to embrace the freedom and power to be obtained through abstinence from drugs, sex and alcohol.

Ericka Dunlap
Miss America 2004
During her year of service, Miss America 2004 Ericka Dunlap traveled extensively addressing audiences to increase awareness and promote the importance of understanding and appreciating different cultures and customs in our society. Through her platform, “United We Stand. Divided We Fall Behind: Celebrating Diversity and Inclusion,” Ericka educated people of all ages to celebrate diversity and eliminate generational ignorance and intolerance of predisposed notions about other cultures, backgrounds and lifestyles.

Deidre Downs
Birmingham, Alabama A native of Birmingham, Alabama, Deidre grew up playing sports and earned a full volleyball scholarship to the University of Virginia. When she gave up her scholarship to focus on academics, she began to compete in the Miss Alabama Pageant to finance her education.

Ms. Berry served as Miss America 2006, representing the state of Oklahoma.
She is an accomplished motivational speaker and an inspirational leader for people everywhere, helping individuals to reach their full potential both personally and professionally. Her passion for transforming lives goes beyond this and is evident in the work that she has done with non-profit organizations like Mothers Against Drunk Driving and Children's Miracle Network.
